Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 3: No. 20-19

20. Florida Gators

I’m not going to be the one to let Florida skate by on the shoulders of the fact that they beat Utah in the season opener for longer than they should. Over the past two weeks now, Anthony Richardson has looked extremely shaky, which has resulted in a loss to Kentucky and a near-upset loss to South Florida this week. That’s barely enough to keep this team inside of the Top 20.

Florida’s defense looks like it might be a real concern as every team they’ve played has moved the ball on them decently well. When you then throw in the inexperienced and, thus, inconsistent quarterback play, that’s going to put them in some danger spots. The Gators are 2-1 with a ranked win to their credit, but it’s still hard to feel particularly great about them after the past two weeks.

19. BYU Cougars

Winning at Baylor in overtime last week and then having to make the trek up to Autzen Stadium in Eugene was a tall order for any team and such was the case for a BYU team still playing without its two best wide receivers. And credit to the Cougars for never stopping fighting against Oregon, but they were simply overmatched in the game and took a tough loss right on the chin.

There will be plenty of other chances this season for BYU, especially when they get to full strength, to prove themselves as they have one of the toughest schedules in the country. But losing on the road against a team that we were probably underrating after how the Ducks lost to Georgia is nothing to scoff at, though it will cause the Cougars to slide a bit in the rankings outside of the Top 15.
