Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 3: No. 6-5

6. Clemson Tigers

Clemson, on paper, did what they were supposed to as Dabo Swinney and his team decided to sleepwalk in Death Valley as they got past Louisiana Tech in a manner where the outcome was never in doubt. But it’s hard not to look at what D.J. Uiagalelei and the Tigers have done to this point and not think that they could start to slide down a bit in the rankings because they haven’t been dominant in spots where they should be.

The offense is a legitimate problem and the calls for Cade Klubnik to take over as QB1 are only going to grow louder in the coming weeks, particularly with Clemson heading back into ACC play next week against Wake Forest. There are no such questions with the defense as that side of the ball remains dominant, but the truth of the matter is that the Tigers just haven’t looked up to par in comparison to the other teams in the Top 5 to this point.

5. Oklahoma Sooners

In a true dead-cat-bounce spot for Nebraska, there were numerous people (myself included) that were thinking that the Huskers could put a scare or even knock off the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday in Lincoln. The renewal of the old rivalry, however, did not yield much competition after Nebraska scored early to take a 7-0 lead as Brent Venables and Jeff Lebby put the pedal to the metal and didn’t look back.

Behind a steady Dillon Gabriel showing with some explosive plays and a fantastic outing from Eric Gray with 113 yards rushing and two scores, Oklahoma ran out to a 49-14 victory over the Cornhuskers in by far the Sooners’ most impressive showing to date.

There were going to be some growing pains with OU given the new regime and personnel, but this was an extremely positive sign for how good the Sooners can be.
