The Georgia football team is not slowing down anytime soon because the Dawgs are repeating.

Although Georgia football fans have seen everything, the college football media thinks this year’s team has every shot at repeating as College Football Playoff National Champions.

While the Dawgs gave up a late score to South Carolina, they obliterated the Gamecocks to the tune of 48-7 in Columbia. Quarterback Stetson Bennett IV continues to marvel in his September Heisman campaign, while tight end Brock Bowers is doing things that we have never seen out of the position before. All the while, it would be so shocking if Georgia did not go 12-0 this season…

Despite teams like Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson and Oklahoma also looking strong, they all are looking up at the Dawgs right now. The gap between Georgia and everyone else is substantial. That is undeniable, but it remains to be seen if anybody will be able to close the gap between now and early December, presumably the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game.

For now, let’s enjoy the reigning national champions looking like an absolute buzzsaw once again.

Georgia football: Dawgs have the best team in the nation right now going away

The most stressful part of a Georgia football game right now is if the defense will pitch a shutout or allow a touchdown. Through three games, they have allowed a grand total of 10 points: One field goal to Oregon and one touchdown drive in extreme garbage time at South Carolina. That’s it. If your defense allows three points a game, you can beat any team in the country at any stadium.

Not only has the defense completely reloaded, but the offense looks to be exponentially better than the year before. Bennett has complete control at the line of scrimmage, running Todd Monken’s offense to perfection. It is amazing what a veteran quarterback can do when the gets all the first-team reps throughout spring practice and fall camp. Plus, Carson Beck can sling it as well!

While there are teams on Georgia’s schedule that could upset the Dawgs (Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Tennessee), they have already destroyed a Pac-12 power in Oregon and an on-the-rise South Carolina team that might win eight games this season. The Gamecocks’ other loss this year is to an emerging power out west in the Sam Pittman’s Arkansas Razorbacks.

Ultimately, there is still work to be done for Kirby Smart’s team. The Dawgs can get better in pass defense and they can improve at catching the ball as well on offense. Although it was not a perfect game like the Oregon one was, you could not have asked for a better start to conference play for the Dawgs than their complete and unrelenting evisceration of South Carolina at Williams-Brice.

This was the biggest beatdown in the history of this southeastern Border War by the Bulldogs.
