The Mets will have a few players that won’t be on their roster on October 1 for a few different reasons.

The New York Mets are a relatively healthy team entering the final three weeks of the season and with Max Scherzer likely coming off of the injured on Monday, they will be in a better place.

With players coming off of the IL by the end of September, there will be some roster changes before October 1. Also, there will be some key players that still might not be with the team by October 1 and into the final days of the regular season.

Here are three Mets that won’t be on the roster by October 1.

Mets pitcher David Peterson

With Max Scherzer most likely coming off the IL on Monday, the Mets are going to have to make a roster move and it will likely come from their pitching staff. It stands to reason that they will send David Peterson to the minor leagues since he is one of only two pitchers on the Mets’ staff that has minor league options.

Peterson has been the club’s fifth starter/spot starter for much of the season and he has been a league-average pitcher (100 ERA+) … but he has been awful in his recent starts.

In his last three starts (all in September), he has only gone 9.1 innings with an ERA of 10.61. In his last start, he got one out in the Mets’ 6-3 loss. The Mets now also have two left-handed relievers and a long-reliever in Trevor Williams so they don’t need a lefty or a long-reliever in the bullpen.
