Mets OF Starling Marte

Starling Marte is one of the Mets’ best hitters … and they won’t have him for the foreseeable future.

Marte told the media on Saturday that he thinks he will be able to return from his fractured middle finger by the end of the regular season. However, he tried throwing and hitting two days ago but since he was still in pain, he stopped doing that for the time being.

If he returns before the end of the season, there is a chance that he could return before October 1, which is in two weeks … but it seems unlikely since he suffered the broken finger last week.

On the season, Marte was an All-Star and he is hitting .292/.347/.468 with 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 24 doubles, and an OPS+ of 131. The Mets really could use his bat and defense right now to try to put the Braves away in the NL East. The Mets face the Braves September 30 through October 2 but Marte may have to wait for the club’s final regular season series with the Nationals to end the season.
