WWE is using Bray Wyatt to troll its own fan base
Bray Wyatt hasn’t competed for WWE in over 400 days, but the company is curiously using the memories of The Fiend to troll its own fans in recent days.
Triple H has brought back a number of former WWE wrestlers since retaking control of the company’s creative process in recent weeks. Recent events make it seem likely that Bray Wyatt could be the latest star to make his triumphant return to a WWE ring.
The company’s decision to kill the lights and blast out Jefferson Airplane’s hit “White Rabbit” has WWE fans buzzing about The Fiend’s possible return. Fans at Saturday night’s house show in Bakersfield, CA certainly connected the song with a possible Wyatt return. Fans immediately cut on their phone lights in a similar fashion to the way they did during Wyatt’s previous ring entrance.
The song was also used in an in-arena commercial during last week’s episode of Smackdown. There is another possible explanation for the song that might argue against it being connected to a fantastic Wyatt return. Karrion Kross, another star who was recently brought back by Triple H, competed in Lucha Underground under the name “White Rabbit.” It’s easy to see how the song could be used to lean into a character change for Kross.
No matter what, WWE officials understand what they are doing by playing a song that can make fans think of Wyatt. At the very least, it’s a clear test to see just how much Wyatt can move the needle if they do decide to pay the money required to bring him back into the ring.
It won’t all be about money for Wyatt though. He’ll also demand significant creative control if he’s going to return to the machine that is WWE. Triple H might be willing to give him that if he believes it can move the needle from a business perspective. Teasing fans about a potential return of The Fiend is the best way to test just how important Wyatt can be to WWE moving forward.
