5 best fantasy football pickups to make for Week 3
By Jakob Ashlin
1. Curtis Samuel, Washington Commanders
Rostered: 67.6%
Last week, I ranked Samuel as my top wide receiver sleeper following his breakout performance in Week 1. In that game, Samuel posted eight receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown on a team-high 11 targets.
Well, Samuel topped that performance in Week 2 with seven receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown against the Detroit Lions. Once again, Samuel led the Commanders in targets (9).
After an injury-riddled 2021, Samuel is on pace for a career year. As of Monday morning, he has the sixth-most fantasy points among wide receivers this season.
Samuel has obviously built a strong connection with Carson Wentz, as the target numbers reflect. He should be rostered in the majority of leagues, and he should continue to be a strong starting wide receiver option.
This week, the Commanders will face the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles allowed the Lions to score 35 points in Week 1. On paper, Samuel looks to be in store for another big game.
