Yankees manager Aaron Boone is chasing his own history after ejection
Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected for the ninth time in 2022 against the Red Sox on Friday, putting him close to managerial history.
Death, taxes and Aaron Boone getting ejected.
That could be the motto of the MLB season for the Yankees manager, who was tossed for the ninth time this year on Friday night against the Red Sox.
Now, while Boone watches Aaron Judge chase Roger Maris’ home run record, he is a couple of ejections away from making history as well.
Former Braves manager Bobby Cox was the most recent manager to get tossed 10 times in a season in 2007. With one more ejection Boone will match him.
However, the record for the most ejections in a season belongs to Cox at 11. That’s how many times he was ejected in 2001. Boone needs two to tie and three to break.

Are there enough games in the season for that to happen? It would definitely be tight, but you never know. New York has 12 games to go.
Cox certainly found a way to meltdown often enough to get tossed with regularity. You don’t have to do very much to anger an umpire. That much was evidenced by Boone’s ejection on Friday night. Simply following the official to talk to him was enough to push him over the edge.
For the record, Cox managed his 11-ejection feat in a 162-game season. Others before him did it in less time. Those include Bill Dahlen in 156 games in 1910, John McGraw in 155 and 153 games in 1905 and 1906, and Paul Richards in 156 games in 1952.
So if you find yourself thinking umpires these days are more egotistical and thin-skinned than ever, you can be assured that they’ve always been that way.
