Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 4: No. 18-17

18. Oregon Ducks

The Ducks were very close to being one of the casualties alongside Miami and Texas on Saturday. Oregon was trailing Cam Ward and Washington State for much of the game and was able to take a late lead with a clutch 50-yard Bo Nix touchdown pass to Troy Franklin and then seal the win with a pick-six with just a minute left on the clock, even if Wazzu got a garbage time score (for the cover!) just before time expired.

Hats off to Nix for rebounding from what could’ve been a disastrous performance early on to respond and come through to get the Ducks a win. With that said, it doesn’t feel like they are necessarily a Top 20 team in the nation as the flaws on both sides of the ball are becoming more and more obvious with each passing week.

17. Washington Huskies

After the way Kalen DeBoer and the Huskies torched Michigan State a week ago, Washington vaulted inside of the Top 20 and had the chance to prove that they were more than deserving of that as they began Pac-12 play in Seattle on Saturday night against a Stanford team that is about as average as they come.

While it wasn’t a perfect performance and while Michael Penix Jr. wasn’t quite as explosive as he had been up to this point, Washington didn’t show anything to make anyone think less of them. They came out and secured a convincing win that left no doubt who the better team on the field was and they are certainly one to watch in a conference that has not seen a single team fully separate itself yet.
