Seahawks have won the Russell Wilson trade in a way you’d never expect
By Scott Rogust
Have the Seattle Seahawks won the Russell Wilson trade just three weeks into the 2022 season?
One of the biggest trades of the NFL offseason involved Russell Wilson going from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos. While it was viewed as a universal win for the Broncos, they have not had the best of starts to the season, despite their 2-1 record. Their lone loss came against the Seahawks and Geno Smith, Wilson’s former backup who won the starting job in training camp.
After three weeks into the 2022 season, have the Seahawks won the Wilson trade?
Well, after three games, Geno Smith has the 10th-best quarterback rating in the NFL with a 62.3 score. As for Wilson, he is ranked 21st with a 45.2 QBR.
Seahawks: Geno Smith has a greater QBR than Russell Wilson
It is too early to declare who is the winner of the trade just yet. But through just three games into the season, it is hard to understate just how bad the Broncos offense has been.
Denver’s offense was expected to be explosive with Wilson under center and with pass catchers like Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy to target. Not to mention that they hired Nathaniel Hackett, the former offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, as their head coach. Instead, the offense looked out of sync, and Hackett’s decision making has been a major topic of discussion.
As an offense, the Broncos averaged 348.0 yards of offense per game, but just 14.3 points per game.
Wilson has thrown for 743 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception while completing 59.4-percent of his passes.
As for the Seahawks, they have not put up strong averages for total yards of offense (296.3) and points (15.7). But, Smith has played well as the team’s QB1 in 2022.
Smith has completed 77.5-percent of his passes for 717 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Again, the NFL season is not even a month old, so there is still plenty of time for Wilson to break out to his usual form. However, Smith has statistically been the better quarterback through the first three weeks of the season.
