Florida will now play Eastern Washington on Sunday, Oct. 2 because of Hurricane Ian.
Toe will meet leather a day later in Gainesville, as the Florida-Eastern Washington game has been moved back a day because of Hurricane Ian.
Kickoff from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium will now be at 12:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 2. The University of Florida announced on Monday that all classes scheduled from Wednesday, Sept. 28 to Friday, Sept. 30 have been canceled, including online classes. Any tickets that were issued for the football game on Saturday will be honored on Sunday. ESPN+ and SECN+ will carry the game.

Florida-Eastern Washington game rescheduled for noon kick on Sunday, Oct. 2
The Gators enter their Week 5 game with a so-so record. After beating the then-No. 7 Utah Utes at home, Florida has dropped two games to division rivals Kentucky and Tennessee, and nearly lost an absolutely brutal one to in-state foe South Florida. This is a rebuilding year for Billy Napier in Gainesville, but the Gators have to get wins where they can get them (i.e. Eastern Washington).
Once the Gators presumably take care of Eastern Washington on Sunday, it will only be Power Five games the rest of the way for Napier’s program. That would include six SEC games, most notably massive rivalry games vs. LSU and vs. Georgia in Jacksonville. Of course, the Gators end the season in Tallahassee, where they will take on a Florida State team that is now finally ranked.
Ultimately, this is just a football game and nothing more. While most of the damage from Hurricane Ian is expected to come up through the Gulf of Mexico, there are people who attend and work for the university from all over the country. Although being safe should be everyone’s top priority this weekend, playing a football game can help us return to normalcy after a huge storm.
