Aaron Judge’s mom and Roger Maris Jr. hugged after the New York Yankees star hit his 61st home run of the season.
The sports world watched and waited to see when exactly Aaron Judge would hit his 61st home run of the season to tie the American League record. On Sept. 28, 2022, Judge sent a baseball into the left field bullpen Rogers Centre to record his 61st homer of the season.
After watching Judge celebrate with his teammates and coaches, the YES Network cameras cut to the crowd, where the Yankees star’s mother, Patty, was standing alongside Roger Maris Jr. After watching the home run, Maris and Judge’s mom embraced in an incredible moment.

The wait was a bit longer than Yankees fans had anticipated. He tied Babe Ruth for second-most home runs hit in a season by an American League player on Sept. 20. While he did not get a home run for an eight-day span, he was still racking up hits.
Judge has seven more games for a chance to break Maris’ record — three home games against the Baltimore Orioles and four road contests versus the Texas Rangers. Oh, and he’s also in the running to clinch the AL Triple Crown, a feat that has not been accomplished since Miguel Cabrera did so in 2012.
The rest of the Yankees’ regular season is worth keeping an eye on, as Judge has the chance to make more history.
