Aaron Judge finally hit the long-awaited 61st home run to tie the American League record set by another Yankees legend, Roger Maris

Yankees fans might’ve been beginning to wonder if Aaron Judge had forgotten how to hit home runs.

Entering Wednesday night’s game against the Blue Jays, Judge hadn’t gone yard in seven games, though he had been playing phenomenally and getting on base at a crazy rate.

He finally pulled through, however.

In the top of the seventh inning against Tim Mayza, he got his pitch and belted it 394 feet over the fence to tie Maris’ record and surpass Babe Ruth by one.

It was a remarkable scene in Toronto for Judge as his teammates gathered around him to with huge smiles as it had to be a huge relief to finally get over the hump. He was never pressing, as evidenced by how often he drew walks and got on base with solid hits. However, it had to be a ton of pressure with everyone watching.

Judge has been remarkable this season and this is just another instance of that. He likely won’t get to 74 home runs to pass the official MLB record set by Barry Bonds, a record even the Yankees star recognizes at the so-called “real” record.

But with seven games left and now that the 61st home run is out of the way, Judge will be looking to own the American League record all by himself soon.

And now this only adds to the offseason drama as Judge will hit free agency this offseason.
