New York Mets vs Atlanta Braves: 5 bold predictions for series of the weekend
By Kevin Henry
Pete Alonso will snap out of his slide in Atlanta
So far this season, Atlanta has been a house of horrors for Mets slugger Pete Alonso. In his seven previous games in 2022 at Truist Park, Alonso has struck out in 14 of his 28 at-bats and slashed just .107/.138/.143 with four RBI.
Knowing those numbers, something has to give in Atlanta this weekend. Over his last 20 at-bats, Alonso is slashing .350/.435/.900 with three homers and 10 RBI, so he is entering the series red-hot. Will those power numbers in recent games overcome his previous outings in Atlanta? We will say yes, adding that Alonso could well put the Mets offense on his back in the series based on his last few games.
There are plenty of whispers out there about how much Alonso belongs in the National League MVP conversation, a race that many are conceding to Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado in St. Louis. However, with the lights shining the brightest on Atlanta this weekend, will Alonso put together an MVP-style performance against the Braves?
MLB fans know how Alonso loves to blast home runs in the Home Run Derby when the pressure is on. We will see the same kind of success at the plate as he exorcises his Truist Park demons this weekend.
