Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 4: No. 10-9

10. Penn State Nittany Lions

It wasn’t the easiest week for Penn State, who couldn’t quite pull away from Northwestern for a big win. Still, the Nittany Lions led by at least a touchdown the whole way.

The biggest issue is that the Wildcats are a weak team this season. After blowing by Auburn a couple of weeks ago, a shaky performance like this won’t help the Nittany Lions make their case against the other undefeated teams out there.

If they hope to rise, Penn State is going to have to win really impressively or wait for others in front of them to drop instead.

9. Ole Miss Rebels

The Fighting Lane Kiffins forced two late red zone fumbles to get away with a victory over Kentucky. It was Kiffin’s first win over a Top 10 team since he was at USC in 2011. Coincidentally, this one involved a former USC quarterback: Jaxson Dart.

The defense was really the difference maker. They limited Kentucky to 2.9 yards per carry and forced the big turnovers when they were absolutely necessary. They also put points on the board with a safety.

You wouldn’t necessarily expect that from a Kiffin team but they’re showing out this season.
