4. Top Fantasy Football Pickups For Week 5 – Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith

The bye season is approaching and many owners will need to either find a backup quarterback for one week or a platoon partner if they are streaming quarterbacks. Few had the Seattle-Detroit game as a bundle of fantasy goodness but the contest did prove to us that Geno Smith has some fantasy value in 2022.

Smith had a huge game for the Seahawks, throwing for 320 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-45 barnburner over the Lions, but the most interesting development was his rushing contributions. Seattle saw Smith scramble for 49 yards and another touchdown on the day, an aspect of his game that would make Smith more playable as a potential fantasy starter going forward.

There is plenty to like with Smith, who has a strong 6:2 touchdown to interception ratio in the early going and has thrown for over 300 yards in back-to-back weeks. Smith also gets to throw to D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett every week so he has capable weapons to work with on a team that could find itself trailing in games often.

Few had even considered Smith, who is rostered in just 12 percent of Yahoo leagues, prior to Week 4. Smith will be a popular commodity off the waiver wire this week as his next three games against the Saints, Cardinals and Chargers are intriguing for fantasy purposes.
