2. Top Fantasy Football Pickups For Week 5 – Atlanta Falcons RB Tyler Allgeier

There wasn’t a ton of running back news this week outside of Atlanta, which demonstrated that its backfield may have morphed into a full-on committee. Cordarrelle Patterson remains at the head of this committee but he only received nine carries while playing through a knee injury, trailing both Tyler Allgeier and Caleb Huntley, who got ten carries a piece.

The workload may be an outlier for Huntley, who was inactive last week, but it does match up for Allgeier, who had 10 carries in Week 1 and another six in Week 2. Allgeier made the most of his opportunities today, rushing for 84 yards with a 42-yard scamper being the highlight reel play.

There hasn’t been a question of talent with Allgeier, a fifth-round pick out of BYU in April’s draft, but more about the amount of opportunities he would receive. Patterson’s injury may inspire the Falcons to operate in more of a timeshare to keep the converted wide receiver healthy over the course of the season, which would in turn add more touches to Allgeier’s plate.

Rostered in 16 percent of Yahoo leagues, Allgeier is a good speculative pickup now as a stash piece on your bench. If Patterson is forced to miss any time with injuries Allgeier would be in position to become a volume-based RB2 on a surprisingly efficient Atlanta offense.
