New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge broke the single-season American League home run record on Tuesday night, breaking Roger Maris’ longstanding mark.
Judge broke the record with two games to spare in a long season — and even more important contests to come. While the Yankees clinched the AL East a few weeks ago, they still have an entire postseason to navigate through.
Roger Maris Jr. would have you believe Judge is the official record-holder for most home runs in a single season in all of baseball history. Of course, that judgement comes with a biased viewpoint.
Judge himself believes Barry Bonds to be the record holder, as he grew up in the Bay Area.
“Oh, yeah,” Judge said, h/t NJ.com. “That’s the record. I watched him do it. I stayed up late watching him do it. That’s the record. No one can take that from him.”

While Maris Jr. and some pundits will pitch to fans that Judge is the real home run king, it’s tough to ignore the accomplishments of Bonds, McGwire and Sosa before him:
“Congratulations to Aaron Judge and his family on Aaron’s historic home run number 62! It has definitely been a baseball season to remember. You are all class and someone who should be revered. For the MAJORITY of the fans, we can now celebrate a new CLEAN HOME RUN KING!!” Maris Jr. tweeted.
