The Yankees are returning to the playoffs for the sixth-straight season but, this time, it is World Series or bust for them.

The New York Yankees have made the postseason a lot in recent years but they have yet to make an appearance in the World Series since 2009, let alone win one since then.

As such, they have a “win the World Series or bust” mentality.

Since they have won the AL East, they have a little bit of a cushion in the playoffs as, under the new playoff structure, they will not have to play in the American League Wild Card series as they will receive a bye in the new playoff structure and will be the no. 2 seed in the ALDS.

Yankees playoff schedule

Since the Yankees have the aforementioned bye in the Wild Card round, they will play their first playoff game on Tuesday Oct. 11, which means they will have a five-day layoff between their final regular season game and their first postseason game.

Due to the lockout to start the season, the regular season schedule was altered slightly to accommodate all 162 games and the postseason is no different.

If the Yankees play in all five games of the ALDS, they will play on Oct. 11, Oct. 13, Oct. 15, Oct. 16, and Oct. 17. It will still follow the 2-2-1 format but they will have an off day between Games 1 and 2 and Games 2 and 3, instead of having off days between Games 2 and 3 and Games 4 and 5.

If they reach the ALCS, they would start play on Oct. 19 through Oct. 26, if they play all seven games. They would have a travel day between Games 2 and 3 but not between Games 5 and 6, unlike previous years. In other words, if they need to play all seven games in the ALCS, they will be playing five games in a row without an off day.

If they make it to the World Series, the regular 2-3-2 schedule will stay the same and the travel days would as well (after Game 2 and after Game 5). The World Series starts on October 28 and would end no later than November 5.

How to watch the Yankees on TV

For the ALDS, the Yankees will be on TBS for all of their games. For the ALCS (if the Yankees make it), they will also be on TBS. If the Yankees make it to the World Series, then all of the games will be on FOX.

How to live stream Yankees playoff games

For Yankees fans in North America, MLB.TV will not be available as a live option for watching the games. However, you can sign up for a free trial with fuboTV and watch Yankees playoff games there.
