Aaron Judge would like his 62nd home run ball back, but fan still undecided

Aaron Judge says he would like to get the 62nd home run of the season back, but the fan who caught still is unsure what to do with it.

On Oct. 4, 2022, New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge broke Roger Maris’ American League single-season home run record by hitting his 62nd homer of the year. There was a belief that it would be done, and fans purchased tickets in the outfield to ensure that they have a chance to catch it and potentially cash in.

The fan who caught Judge’s historic home run ball was Cory Youmans, and he left the stands with security. As he was leaving, media asked Youmans what he would do with the baseball, to which he replied, “Good question, I haven’t thought about it.”

At the end of the game, Judge was asked about the home run ball, and said that while it would be great to get the ball back, he understands that Youmans caught it.

“I don’t know where it’s at,” he said, h/t the Associated Press. “We’ll see what happens with that. It would be great to get it back, but that’s a souvenir for a fan. He made a great catch out there, and they’ve got every right to it.”

Fan who caught historic Aaron Judge home run ball receives offer

While he has not made up his mind just yet, Youmans has received an offer.

JP Cohen, the owner of Memory Lane Inc. sports memorabilia auction house, told the Associated Press that he offered Youmans $2 million for the Judge home run baseball. Cohen says that Youmans had not replied to his offer.

“I feel the offer is way above fair, if he is inclined to sell it,” Cohen told the Associated Press.

Judge was pulled from the game shortly after hitting the 62nd home run. That would also be his final regular-season game played, as he sat in the finale against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.

On the year, Judge leads the league with 62 home runs, 131 RBI, 133 runs, a.425 on-base percentage, .686 slugging percentage, a 1.111 OPS, 211 OPS+, and a 391 total bases.

There will be plenty of eyes on what happens with Judge’s 62 home run ball of 2022, whether the star outfielder gets it back or not.
