2. Brewers closer Taylor Rogers needs a change of scenario, again

Taylor Rogers wasn’t nearly as big of a disaster with the Brewers as Josh Hader was with the San Diego Padres. Still, the soon-to-be free agent wasn’t nearly good enough for the Brewers to re-sign. Where will he end up?

It’s the Chicago Cubs who will come calling for Rogers. They took a chance on many relievers last offseason. The closer role went to David Robertson who was then traded to the Philadelphia Phillies at the deadline. They traded several other relievers away as well. There are spots open and availability to experiment.

The Cubs are expected to be far more active this winter than they were last. While they didn’t sit on their hands completely, the Cubs didn’t make the boldest of offseason moves. Things should be different this time around.

Rogers would be a contender for the closer spot in the Cubs bullpen. They’d be wise to at least have one other option. Rogers, for as good as he is at times, has also shown maybe a setup gig is better. Considering he is a lefty, it’s not such a bad thing to have. Rogers should still have enough on his resume from 2022 to earn himself a multi-year deal. It won’t break the bank. It also won’t have him going hungry.
