Texas football will have Quinn Ewers back healthy for the Red River Showdown vs. Oklahoma and that should be a huge deal for the Longhorns.

Quinn Ewers’ health will remain the big ā€œwhat ifā€ of the season after he suffered an injury and his Texas Longhorns failed to pull off an upset over Alabama.

There will be no ā€œwhat ifā€ necessary for Saturday’s showdown with Oklahoma though. The former five-star is expected to start after successfully recovering from hisĀ sprained clavicle

According to Pete Thamel, Ewers has practiced the entire week without limitations. He’ll be good to go for Saturday.

What does that mean for Texas football? Big things.

Ewers was injured early against Alabama but he saw enough action to impress. He completed 9-of-12 passes for 134 yards, including a 46-yard completion to Xavier Worthy just short of the goal line.

Worthy was his most danger connection on that day. He found him for a 26-yard gain on the sideline and put the ball up in the endzone beautifully for a near-touchdown that the receiver couldn’t hang onto.

Ewers also built a reliable link with Jordan Whittington, who caught all five of his targets in the first quarter for 50 yards.

The brief showing was enough to demonstrate the quarterback’s ability, especially his threat with the deep ball. He also showed calm under pressure.

The unnecessary roughness that took him out of the game prevented the college football world from seeing what he might have done to the Alabama defense for three whole quarters.

Hudson Card did an admirable job in place of Ewers but there’s a reason the youngster got the nod as the starter coming into the season. His ceiling is incredibly high. All he needs is the opportunity to put on a show.

For Oklahoma, that’s a worry. Anyone who watched the Sooners defense get torched by TCU knows how vulnerable they are. Ewers, Bijan Robinson, Worthy and Whittington have the ability to replicate that performance.

Oklahoma’s defense would be on notice even if it was Card starting. Ewers just elevates everything the Longhorns can do on offense. This could be the perfect matchup to get Texas football back on track.
