Mets roster surprises: Darin Ruf

The Mets acquired Ruf at the trade deadline from the San Francisco Giants. While he was borderline to even make the roster in the first place due to an injury, New York deemed him healthy enough, as he was swinging a bat as recently as early this week.

Expect New York to use Ruf as a right-handed DH option against the Padres.

Even a few weeks ago, Mets fans were furious with Ruf, who went on a 1-for-33 stretch in early September. However, he has turned things around of late to some extent, and a player who was arguably the best overall hitter on the Giants from 2020-21 will receive an opportunity to impress for his new team in the playoffs.
