Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer was carted off the field after a scary mid-field collision with Bo Bichette during the Mariners vs. Blue Jays Wild Card game on Saturday.
Springer and Bichette were both running into shallow center field trying to make a play on a ball that would’ve been the third out off of the bat from J.P Crawford to get out of a bases-loaded jam. Instead, they collided and both players went down in pain.
While Bichette was only slow to get up, Springer stayed on the turf for quite some time as he was visited and checked on by trainers.
Blue Jays: George Springer carted off with injury after collision with Bo Bichette
He had to be helped up off of the ground with what appeared to be a lower-body injury and was then loaded onto the cart to leave the field and be ruled out of the game.
Springer was sitting up on his own as he was taken off the field, which is a good sign. But the optics of the injury, if the Blue Jays survive Game 2 after losing Game 1, suggest that he could be out for the remainder of the season.
Making matters worse, the ball dropped on that play, clearing the bases and tying the game between Toronto and Seattle. The Mariners then took the lead in the top of the ninth.
