Nebraska has elite tradition, but nobody is winning big time in Lincoln any more
The task of turning around Nebraska will not scare Rhule. He dominated at Temple in the Group of Five and did remarkable things at Baylor before failing in the NFL in Charlotte. Nebraska has a rich football tradition, a passionate fanbase and is the biggest ticket in town in The Cornhusker State. However, we all saw former Nebraska quarterback Scott Frost be an unmitigated disaster there.
Rhule is fortunate that he has shown he can win at places without dominating in recruitment. The NIL era of college football will help Nebraska long-term, but leaving the Big 12 was a huge mistake for the identity of the program. They lost precious recruiting territory in Texas. Then again, Rhule may still carry some cachet from his run at Baylor. This is not a terrible landing spot for him at all.
Rhule is getting paid anyway by Tepper, so money is not going to be the driving force to hire him.
Colorado needs juice badly, Matt Rhule can make Buffaloes feel big once again
Let’s be real. Colorado has to do something. It was weird when Karl Dorrell was hired in the first place. While they could not anticipate losing Mel Tucker to Michigan State after only one season, that is what happens when you go cheap. CU needs a new head coach with a presence. Rhule would have no issues taking over what might be the worst program in the Power Five currently…
Because he is getting all that money from Tepper, Colorado might be able to afford Rhule now. Regardless, he will bring energy to the great college town of Boulder. While Bryan Harsin and Todd Monken would do very well at CU, Rhule has the proven track record of taking a college program scraping along at rock bottom and turning it into a winner. Can you imagine if he makes CU good?
Regardless, Colorado needs to make a splash here and get back into the interesting game for once.
