The Seattle Mariners fell victim to the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, via a walk-off home run from Yordan Alvarez. Mariners fans have seen this before.
Sadly for Seattle baseball fans, this is hardly the first heartbreak they’ve felt. By no means is the ALDS series over, but a Game 1 defeat of this magnitude is tough to come back from, especially as the underdog. The Mariners’ resolve will be tested right away.
Seattle entered the postseason as the story of baseball, ending the longest current postseason drought in the core four American sports leagues. They then defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in the Wild Card round.
Getting past Houston was always going to be a struggle, but the M’s had the Astros up against the ropes in Game 1, only to fall flat on their faces. There’s plenty of blame to go around, including to Robbie Ray and manager Scott Servais. But for now, all Seattle fans can do is mope in their own sorrow.
Mariners fans upset after Game 1 loss to Astros
Mariners and MLB fans alike were curious exactly what Servais was thinking in his decision to put Ray in that situation.
Robbie Ray in 3 starts against the #Astros in the regular season:

10.2 IP, 10.97 ERA, 13 ER, 23 H, 6 HR.
Why is he in the game in the bottom of the ninth for the #Mariners
Even Patrick Mahomes went crazy when Alvarez walked it off.
Wow!!! That was a 💣💣!!! #Astros

As for M’s fans, they just want what’s best for their team.
The Seattle Mariners just got Paul Seawalded

if the mariners lose this lead i think the umps should just give them the win anyway. they led for a good while there. you get the point, right? you get what they were going for. i don’t see the need to nickel-and-dime them on this

Mariners fans: “We’re up by two runs in the ninth inning, what could possibly go wrong?”

Ok so now instead of thinking about how funny it would’ve been for the Mariners to win that game, think about how funny it would be to lose that game like they did and STILL win this series

I never want to see Robbie ray wear a mariners uniform ever again… pic.twitter.com/6b2TvnkImK

That was the dumbest bullpen management I've ever seen. Swanson was right there

I'm not sure if even the Mariners can bounce back from something like that. But if they're going to, it starts with finding a reason to put Robbie Ray on the IL and swap him out for pretty much anyone else, because he can't pitch again in this series after that.

I encourage #Mariners fans to take a night off social media and do self care after that one.

Self care is the best care.
Remember, baseball fans, it’s a long series.
