Home plate umpire Chris Segal is off to a rough start in Game 2 of the Los Angeles Dodgers-San Diego Padres series, as he gifted Max Muncy a home run.

Yu Darvish is one of the more dominant pitchers in all of baseball when he’s on, but he’s not getting any favors from home plate umpire Chris Segal.

Darvish seemingly has an unlimited number of pitches in his arsenal, including at least three sliders if you ask Jazz Chisholm. Yet, when he has to throw four strikes in a single at-bat against an elite hitter like Max Muncy, it’s tough to blame him for a looming mistake.

The veteran hurler delivered what should have been strike three, and froze Muncy as a result. The pitch was instead called a ball.

So, what happened instead? How about a Muncy home run.

Padres and Dodgers rivalry is brewing

While some Dodgers fans would have you believe their division affairs with the Padres do not count as rivalry games, some comments from the players involved would have you think otherwise. Freddie Freeman’s response to the Padres recent hot streak before the series sure sounded a little conflicted:

“They’re hot, and we’ve been hot for seven months,” Freeman said.

That doesn’t sound like innocent chatter before the start of a playoff series.

A back-and-forth series — with some questionable calls thrown in — should only add to the fire.

Next. Is Padres-Dodgers a rivalry? Not if you have to ask. dark
