Lightning really can strike twice, but in Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez’s case, the lightning is relatively predictable.

So, why would the Seattle Mariners pitch to Yordan Alvarez, at this point? Your answer is as good as mine.

Alvarez took Robbie Ray deep on Tuesday night to win Game 1 in dramatic fashion. In Game 2, with Luis Castillo on the mound, he did much of the same in the sixth inning.

Another 0-1 pitch where it shouldn’t have been, another Alvarez home run. Just like that, Houston led Game 2 by the score of 3-2.

There were a few different aspects to this Alvarez home run. First off, this blast was to left field, rather than right. Second, Seattle still has three innings of pain to live through. Enjoy!

Astros: Yordan Alvarez makes Mariners pay again

Alvarez’s home run makes him the early favorite in for postseason MVP, should the Astros reach their World Series aspirations. There money line to defeat the Mariners in Game 2 went from +130 to -460 in real time. Sheesh.

MLB Twitter had plenty of fun with Alvarez’s blast, and most reacted in shock. No one is rooting against the Mariners on this website, seemingly. Yet, we just can’t look away as the villain shatters Seattle baseball’s hopes and dreams.

Alvarez’s salary just seems unfair at this point, and the Astros got a bargain. Can his agent renegotiate, by chance?

Alvarez’s parents were in attendance for Game 1, and he came through in a big way. He commented on how special that was for him after the contest.

“I think it’s one of the most special moments that I’ve had in my career, having [my parents] there, and even for just the city of Houston,” Alvarez said.

It appears Game 1’s blast was just a preview of what’s to come.
