A perfect way to make a rival worse is to convince Todd Monken to leave Georgia
Given that Auburnās two biggest rivals are Alabama and Georgia, it always serves the Tigers to make coaching hires that make those two programs squirm. While he is not a proven head coach by any means, Todd Monken is one of the best offensive coordinators in the country. He is having so much fun beating seemingly everyone now in his third season coordinating the Georgia offense.
Yes, Monken did serve as Southern Missā head coach nearly a decade ago, and he may want to remain a coordinator for the rest of his career. However, Auburn has the potential to be his Oregon gig like it was for Dan Lanning. Good jobs like this do not open up every day. While Auburnās ceiling may not be better under Monken as it was under Malzahn, it will certainly be higher than Harsinās.
For Auburn to catch up to Alabama and Georgia, one of them will have to stake a step back or two.
Deion Sanders may go Power Five this offseason, but is Auburn the right spot?
With things going better for Mike Norvell in Tallahassee, it may not be in the cards for Deion Sanders to take over his alma materās program. While he is thriving coaching Jackson State, it is only a matter of time before Coach Prime leaves his HBCU behind for a lucrative Power Five gig. With five open, and potentially six once Auburn makes its move, Sanders should get one of them.
Recruiting, building a staff and instilling fear in rival teams is not going to be an issue for Sanders. What it really comes down to is if Sanders will come in and command the respect of the Auburn boosters immediately. Auburn needs a guy like Alabama got in Nick Saban back in 2007. He unified all the boosters and had everyone pulling in the same direction. Sadly, Sanders may not do thatā¦
Auburn is probably the best job he can get this offseason, but he may do better at ⦠Arizona State.
