NBA veteran Nate Robinson undergoing treatment for kidney failure
NBA Slam Dunk star Nate Robinson announced that he is undergoing treatment for renal kidney failure.
On Saturday, NBA Veteran and Slam Dunk Contest Nate Robinson announced that he is undergoing treatment while battling renal kidney failure.
“I am currently undergoing treatment for Renal Kidney Failure and have been privately dealing with it for the last four years. I’m sharing this now because I want to be the voice for all those who are having trouble speaking about this illness, and come together for a greater cause – our health,” Robinson said in a statement.
“I was never a vocal leader on the court, I preferred to lead by example, but now it’s time for me to speak up and help all those affected by or dealing with Kidney Disease.
“I am grateful for the care and support I’ve received and continue to receive during this process, and hope through this announcement that I can help others like me.”
Earlier in the day, former NBA star and Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo announced he too would be undergoing treatment, but for a brain tumor.
As they always do, the NBA community and Twitter took to their keyboards to send their best to Robinson as he battles through this most difficult time.

Prayers to Nate Robinson as he battles renal kidney failure and undergoes treatment.
Nate Robinson played 11 seasons in the NBA for eight franchises, notably with teams like the New York Knicks, where he first played. He then had stints with the Chicago Bulls, Denver Nuggets, Oklahoma City Thunder, LA Clippers, and others. He last played in the NBA with New Orleans in 2015-16 before playing the rest of his basketball career in other leagues.
Robinson is best known for winning the NBA Slam Dunk Contest three times, first in 2006, then back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010. At the same time, he was a very serviceable player and had several highlight-worthy moments during his tenure.
Robinson’s career average during his NBA career was 11 PPG on 42.3% shooting, including a shade over 30% beyond the arc. His breakout in the playoffs came during the 2013 season, where he averaged 16.3 PPG for the Chicago Bulls as they made it to the conference semi-finals, losing to the Miami Heat in five games.
It’s hard to watch this news come out, already with Dikembe Mutombo and now with Nate Robinson. One can only imagine what their families are going through at this point. At this point, there is nothing more we can do than offer our prayers and support during this difficult time.
