The San Diego Padres are on fire in the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Not many have held faith in the Friars to beat out their division rivals, but they’re now up 2-1, just one win away from advancing to the NLCS.
To continue their good luck, they’ve placed some fake geese in their dugout.
The geese are a clear good luck charm for the Padres. In Game 2, a real goose was hanging out in the field at Dodger Stadium, and San Diego pulled off a 5-3 win after losing Game 1. Not including geese in Game 3 was too much of a risk to take.
Now, they’re just one win away from making their first NLCS since 1998.
The Padres have a strong shot at the NLCS
The Padres weren’t expected to beat the Dodgers. After all, they lost much more often than not to Los Angeles and didn’t win any series against them in the regular season. Now, they’re on track to win a postseason series against one of their biggest rivals.
The Dodgers have been one of the most well-rounded and consistent teams in the league all season, but the Padres certainly have enough talent to be competitive.
Though they haven’t been consistent, San Diego has several talented players, including Manny Machado and Juan Soto, the biggest player acquired at the trade deadline during the 2022 season.
There aren’t any obvious advantages that the Padres have over the Dodgers, so if San Diego wins, it’s an underdog situation. Their potential is fully coming out now, but it hasn’t been to this extent in the regular season.
After putting themselves ahead of their rival, the Padres have proven they are contenders.
