Chiefs trade targets: WR Robbie Anderson, Carolina Panthers

UPDATE: Since publication, Robbie Anderson was traded to the Arizona Cardinals. D.J. Moore is another receiver from Carolina the Chiefs could consider. Below is what Matt Conner had to say about Moore

"If the Panthers were ready and willing to trade a young asset like Moore, most teams would love such an addition—including the Chiefs. Remember that Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s deal is really a series of team options that get much more expensive after 2022. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman are free agents next spring. That leaves Skyy Moore as the only name of note at wideout beyond 2022 for the Chiefs."

Below is what we had said about Anderson and the Chiefs before the trade went down:

It never hurts to give Patrick Mahomes some more receiving options. Kansas City has been unafraid to give WRs a go with it in the past, and their wide receiver room has been a bit of a turnstile over the years. Tight end Travis Kelce has been Mahomes’ consistent receiver over the years, but as far as receivers go, Mahomes can and will throw to just about anyone.

KC gave Josh Gordon a go in 2021. Le’Veon Bell had a shot in 2020. Why not add Robbie Anderson to the fold next?

Anderson was sent to the locker room early in the Panther’s Week 6 loss to the Rams after arguments with multiple coaches. That’s not a good look, but it’s as much of a signal as any that he could be on the move. Gordon and Bell came with some history when the Chiefs brought them in, so the Chiefs probably aren’t all that scared away by the sideline incident on Sunday.

The Chiefs signed Marcus Kemp to their practice squad on Monday which might be a note that they’re open to finding more receiving help for Mahomes.

Anderson is averaging 15.8 yards per reception this year on 2.2 receptions per game, his lowest amount of receptions per game since his rookie season.
