Dak Prescott confirms great news for Cowboys after loss to Eagles

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has been out most of the season with a thumb injury, but he’s eyeing a return very soon.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has been since suffering a thumb fracture in the season-opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

His absence has certainly been tough for many to accept, but it’s nearly over. He shared the good news that he plans on returning for Week 7 against the Detroit Lions.

According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Prescott was asked if he feels it’s time for him to return next week against the Lions, to which he responded, “Yeah, for sure. That’s my plan.”

He could’ve returned for Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles as he was listed as questionable, but coach Mike McCarthy is leaning on the side of caution and wanted him to get a full week of practice in before returning, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.

Luckily, the Cowboys haven’t suffered performance-wise without Prescott because Cooper Rush stepped up and filled in beautifully.

Dak Prescott’s absence fortunately wasn’t too much of a challenge for the Cowboys

Prescott’s absence became an opportunity for Rush to prove he’s capable of being a good starter for Dallas. He brought the team to victory for four straight games before crumbling under the pressure of the Eagles. He helped the team catch up 20-17 in the fourth quarter, but it, unfortunately, wasn’t enough to bring in a victory.

However, a loss to the Eagles is expected. They’re widely considered the best team in the NFL this season with a perfect record, so nobody has proven to be capable of taking them down yet.

Rush has done so well that there have been questions as to whether or not he’ll replace Prescott as a starter. Prescott followed a similar path when he replaced Tony Romo, but it seems far too soon to replace Prescott. He’s still reliable and isn’t eligible for free agency until 2025, so it wouldn’t make sense to limit him just yet.

Now the question becomes whether or not the Cowboys might try to capitalize on the Rush hype and trade him while his value is high.

Prescott has also been one of the most solid players in Dallas since joining in 2016. There’s no reason to not give him a chance to continue proving himself, but the Cowboys are lucky to have another reliable option.
