1. Unraveling the mystery of Ben Simmons

The third member of Brookyn’s “Big Three” might be the most intriguing player in the entire NBA heading into the 2022-23 season. Simmons’ ugly exit from Philadelphia has fueled the narrative that he’s not a good NBA player any longer. The presence of his unique physical gifts spits in the face of that idea.

Nets fans should be concerned with Simmons’ mental health, but if he can find a way to feel comfortable and engaged then he becomes a fascinating player to integrate into the team’s ecosystem.

Offensively, Simmons is never going to be a quality perimeter shooter. He can, however, unlock opposing defenses with his elite passing skills from a variety of spots on the floor. If Nash chooses to play Simmons in the high post it could give Brooklyn one of the most efficient half-court offenses in the league. The idea of him zipping passes to Durant and Irving coming off screens is enough to keep opposing coaches up at night.

The former No. 1 pick might do even more for his new team on the defensive end of the floor. His exceptional length gives him a chance to get into passing lanes at a prolific clip. His raw size makes him an intriguing switch candidate against any opponent. Don’t be surprised if Nash deploys him against the best offensive opponent regardless of position on a nightly basis.

Simmons is far from a perfect player, but the Nets have a roster that can really leverage his unique skill set. Brooklyn fans should be fascinated to see what he can give this team moving forward.
