The San Diego Padres’ huge rally helped them take Game 2 over the Philadelphia Phillies, and even up the NLCS.
The San Diego Padres were one-hit in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series, losing 2-0 to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Padres had one more chance to get a win at Petco Park before they departed for Games 3-5 in Philadelphia. Well, they were able to do so in the most epic way possible.
San Diego bounced back from a 4-0 deficit to Philadelphia to pick up the 8-5 win. Five of those runs were scored in the bottom of the fifth inning, with the rally beginning with catcher Austin Nola hitting an RBI single off of his younger brother, Aaron.

The rally officially began in the bottom of the second inning, when Brandon Drury and Josh Bell hit back-to-back solo home runs. Then, in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Padres got two runners on base. That allowed Nola to hit the RBI single off of his younger brother to bring the team within one.
That was then followed by Juan Soto’s RBI double, Drury’s two-run single, and Bell’s RBI single to give San Diego a 7-4 lead.
The Padres added another run to cushion their lead in the form of a Manny Machado solo homer to center field.
Aaron Nola was handed the loss after he surrendered six earned runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings of work while striking out six batters.
Now, the series heads to Philadelphia for the next three games. Will an NL pennant winner be crowned? Or will the series head back to San Diego? That remains to be seen.
