Dansby Swanson replacements: Braves sign Trea Turner

Dansby Swanson’s agent, Casey Close, is the same agent who spurned the Braves last offseason with Freddie Freeman. Freeman has since dropped Close as his agent.

With that in mind, if Close fails in his dealing with Atlanta this time around, could some revenge be in order? It helps that in this case revenge would be signing the best shortstop available on the market.

Atlanta has saved a lot of money by signing its starts before they reached their walk years. Freeman and Swanson are the exceptions. But in taking that step, they have plenty of capital to play with. So why not use some of it as a position of need?

Turner is one of the best players in all of baseball. No one can outspend the Dodgers, but it’s fair to wonder why they even let their star shortstop reach the open market in the first place.

FanSided’s Robert Murray opined that Turner could be a good fit for Atlanta, should they open their pocketbooks:

"“To me, the Braves are the sleeper for Turner … if Dansby Swanson leaves in free agency. Swanson and the Braves have talked about an extension, sources said, though nothing is believed to be close. Atlanta has saved money in the long haul by signing Michael Harris II, Spencer Strider, Austin Riley and others to extensions. Perhaps they could use some of that money to sign Turner in a move that would send shockwaves throughout baseball.”"

All valid points, and reasons why it would be odd of the Braves NOT to at least call Turner’s representatives. You only get so many shots to acquire a player of that caliber.
