4) Monster Braves free agent target: Edwin Diaz

If it’s not deGrom the Braves go after, maybe it’s Mets closer Edwin Diaz. It would be an absolute dream for Braves fans to steal him away from the Mets. The only question might be whether or not Diaz and William Contreras can share Narcos as their entrance songs.

The Braves will have a lot of questions in the closer role this winter they will need to address. Kenley Jansen signed only a one-year deal with the team. He wasn’t sharp enough to be someone they should invite back.

A good closer is difficult to find. Even the Mets weren’t so sure after Diaz’s first year with them in 2019.

The Braves would have to act fast and blow Diaz away with a deal. With a strong roster already in place and under contract, signing Diaz to a $100+ million dollar deal could be their biggest splash. A few finishing touches to the roster could make them an exceptionally good team. They’re also taking away one of the greatest weapons the Mets have. That should help them a ton.

Of course, the trouble may be getting to Diaz in the first place. The Mets have an advantage already. There’s nothing to stop them from signing him to an extension before he even gets to free agency.
