Packers need to call Jets right now for disgruntled wide receiver

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, wide receiver Elijah Moore has officially requested a trade from the New York Jets. The Green Bay Packers should be calling.

The New York Jets have had one wide receiver request a trade this year in Denzel Mims. The team declined his request, and he has not participated in a single game this season. Now, that list of receivers wanting off of the Jets has grown by one.

This past weekend, Elijah Moore commented on a tweet regarding his lack of targets in the team’s Week 6 victory over the Green Bay Packers, commenting  that while he is happy the team is winning, “just know that I don’t understand either.” On Thursday, Moore was excused from practice for a personal reason.

According to NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport, Moore has requested a trade from the Jets, citing his role and usage on the team. Rapoport notes, however, the Jets have no desire to move on from the second-year wide receiver.

And with that, there is one team that should be calling to try to get the Jets to change their minds — the Green Bay Packers.

Packers must find a way to convince Jets to trade Elijah Moore

The Packers have a notable need at the wide receiver position this season. The team notably moved on from Davante Adams by trading him to the Las Vegas Raiders. Marquez Valdes-Scantling signed a multi-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. They are relying on their veterans in Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, but they have new faces that are not exactly contributing.

Christian Watson, the team’s second-round pick this year, is dealing with injuries. Sammy Watkins, who the Packers signed this offseason, was recently activated off the injured reserve, missing four games due to a hamstring injury.

That left the team relying on Lazard, tight end Robert Tonyan, and running backs Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, notably and ironically during the team’s 27-10 loss to the Jets this past weekend.

Moore showed a lot during his rookie season in 2021, catching 43-of-77 targets for 538 yards and five touchdowns.

This season, Moore’s targets were aplenty, with a season high of nine in the team’s Week 3 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. But since then, they have dropped off. In Weeks 4 and 5, Moore received four targets in each game, before being targeted once in Week 6, which was wiped out due to a penalty.

The NFL’s trade deadline is on Nov. 1. The Packers have an obvious need at wide receiver, as their offense is struggling. They have their options available, but they need to at least consider making a call to the Jets to see if they can convince them of moving on from Moore.
