2. Monster SF Giants free agent target: Trea Turner

Shortstop is a major area of need for the Giants. Brandon Crawford has seen better days. It’s time to flex and go after someone else. Although Judge could be the priority for them, they’re making tremendous progress by signing Trea Turner.

For the last year and a half, Turner has been a Giants rival as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. It doesn’t seem like the Dodgers will retain him although nothing guarantees he will leave. Their ability to sign top free agents and produce good young talent could allow them to let Turner to walk away, even to the rival Giants.

Turner would be a great addition to the Giants for some obvious reasons. Their tremendous need for more offensive flavor would be solved. Turner could do everything from hit first to cleanup for them.

If the Giants miss on signing Judge, they need to get Turner. He’s the important of a free agent signing and at a premium position.

Perhaps best of all, it weakens the Dodgers. The Giants might not be quite ready to compete for a championship in 2023. However, with Turner on the roster for a few more years, they’re set up incredibly well for many future runs starting almost immediately.

Of course, if they miss on Turner, there are some other players at the position to look at.
