Commanders win puts $125K in Taylor Heinicke’s pocket
By Scott Rogust
Quarterback Taylor Heinicke received a huge bonus from the Washington Commanders after their Week 7 win over the Green Bay Packers.
In a strong NFC East, the Washington Commanders sat firmly in last place with a 2-4 record entering Week 7. They had just ended their four-game losing streak by defeating the Chicago Bears last week, but found out afterwards that they would be without quarterback Carson Wentz for the foreseeable future due to a broken finger. That meant it was time for Taylor Heinicke to step up in his absence.
Did Heinicke ever rise to the occasion, as he helped lead Washington to a 23-21 victory over the Green Bay Packers. Heinicke threw for 201 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while completing 20-of-33 pass attempts.
For this showing, Heinicke received a huge bonus. As ESPN’s Field Yates points out, Heinicke received a $125,000 incentive for playing at least 60-percent of Washington’s snaps and for winning.

What’s sweeter than a win? How about a $125,000 bonus check?
Heinicke told ESPN’s John Keim after the game that he will buy himself a pair of Jordan’s, which he has done when earning a bonus after every win. The Jordan’s he buys are usually the same color scheme as the team he defeated.
“Tomorrow I’ll probably buy myself green and yellow Js,” said Heinicke, via Keim.
Trailing 14-3 to Green Bay, Heinicke helped Washington take the lead on a nine-yard touchdown pass to running back Antonio Gibson in the second quarter, and a 37-yard pass to wide receiver Terry McLaurin in the third. From there, kicker Joey Slye nailed two field goals to bring them up to a 23 point total.
The Packers did score a late touchdown to bring them within two, but with little time left and zero timeouts at their disposal, their final attempt to get a win fell short.
Now, the Commanders will head to Indianapolis in Week 8 to take on the Colts. Heinicke has shown that the Commanders may not need to worry about the quarterback position
