New York Yankees fans don’t even want to attend Game 4 of the ALCS, in which they could get swept by the Houston Astros.

Yankees Game 4 tickets can be had for relatively cheap, which is a surprise for two reasons. First, everything is more expensive in New York City. Second, the Yanks are on the brink of elimination. If they ever needed their fanbase to inspire them, it’s now.

But that’s not necessarily how baseball fandom, or sports fandom in general, works. Fans don’t show up at the will of the players and/or ownership group. It depends on the on-field product, and that’s been lacking for New York of late.

The Yankees haven’t just been dominated by Houston. Most of these games have been fairly predictable, with the Yanks’ offensive approach routinely mocked by fans and pundits alike. Pinstripe pitchers have to be perfect, and they have not done so against an Astros offense that includes so many household names, and some in the making like Jeremy Peña.

Tough to blame Yankees fans for Game 4 ticket prices

Yankee Stadium is as expensive as they come. Everything — from peanuts to what should be a cheap beer — is insanely overpriced. The tickets, as one would imagine, are of this ilk as well.

To convince fans on the secondhand ticket market to spend their time and money on a game the Yankees could very well lose, the price of admission must go down. The entire fanbase is deflated broken promises and low expectations.

Nonetheless, an ALCS game is just that, and in this case it’s a chance to witness history. If you’re in New York City — Yankee fan or not — it could be worth a visit to the Bronx to witness what may be Aaron Judge’s final game in pinstripes, the extension of a memorable Astros run, and more.
