Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers celebrated hard during the ALDS win and got an injury. It now appears to be much worse than it initially seemed.

Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers celebrated hard during the ALDS win, and he got himself a pretty bad injury after being hit right by his TJ scar with a champagne bottle. The injury is much worse than it initially appeared, and he’s expected to pitch in roughly a week for the World Series.

In the photo, his elbow is shown completely red and swollen. There was reportedly no structural damage thankfully, but the pain was enough to keep him out of Game 3 in the ALCS. He did, however, pitch in Game 4. He didn’t do great, but the injury could definitely be to blame.

His health is extremely important for the World Series as he’s facing the Philadelphia Phillies, who have had incredible offense in the postseason.

Astros pitcher Lance McCullers’ health is important approaching the World Series

The Phillies have been on fire in the postseason. Nobody really expected them to make it beyond the NLDS, and they’ve shocked most fans. They began their journey in the Wild Card series and beat out the St. Louis Cardinals, which was an even match. They then faced the Atlanta Braves, who they initially seemed to have no chance of knocking out.

With incredible offense and many home runs, they were able to knock the defending World Series champions out of the running and move up to the NLCS, which they won beautifully and are now in the World Series. This is their first playoff run since 2011, so they’re craving victory.

With that in mind, the Astros need their pitchers to put up their best performance if they want to knock the Phillies offense down a notch. Houston has a lot of talent on the mound. During the regular season, they had the second-best ERA (2.90), opponent batting average (.212) and WHIP (1.09).

Justin Verlander, who had a Cy Young-worthy season, is likely to do well. However, the entire team needs to hold it together if they want to pull another victory.
