Lyin Eyes: Aledmys Diaz thinks we’re all dumb, insists he didn’t lean into pitch
By Rylie Smith
Houston Astros utility player Aledmys Diaz tried to finesse a hit-by-pitch on Friday night, and he insists he didn’t lean into it.
The Houston Astros needed all the help they could get in the second half of Game 1 of the World Series. They managed to blow a 5-0 lead beginning in the fourth inning, and the Philadelphia Phillies went on to tie the game in the fifth. Aledmys Diaz took matters into his own hands by leaning into the pitch in the tenth inning in an attempt to get walked, but it backfired.
The umpire ruled that Diaz intentionally made contact with the ball and therefore required him to complete his at-bat. Diaz spoke out on the situation, and he insists it was an accident.
Diaz said he was shocked about the umpire’s call and that he didn’t lean into the pitch.
He certainly has a great poker face, but it’s not convincing enough when looking back at the incident.
In his at-bat, his elbow very clearly moved forward across the plate as the pitch came in. Many are tying this incident back to the 2017 Astros cheating scandal that Houston just can’t seem to live down.
Astros: Aledmys Diaz’s hit-by-pitch that wasn’t
Many baseball fans have rightfully lost trust in the Astros after being caught for stealing signs in the 2017 World Series, and this incident certainly isn’t helping their reputation.
One fan kept it simple, saying that lying was an “Astro special.”
Another referenced the iconic movie Elf with a Gif referencing the phrase, “You sit on a throne of lies.”
One made a humorous statement saying he didn’t lean into the pitch, he was actually leaning in to hear the trash can signal.
The World Series is certainly one of the most fun times in the baseball season with the craziest incidents.
