The Houston Astros came away with a Game 2 victory despite a ninth-inning scare from Rob Thomson’s group. The series is tied at one game apiece heading to Philadelphia.
Thanks in large part to a three-run first inning, the Astros never looked back and won Game 2 going away.
Houston made MLB history against Zack Wheeler, as they recorded three extra-base hits in a row to start Game 2. Jose Altuve, Jeremy Peña and Yordan Alvarez all recorded doubles.
That, and a splendid start from Framber Valdez (who in many ways chased away the ghosts of World Series past), were enough to secure a series split heading to Philadelphia for Monday’s Game 3.

The mild-mannered Dusty Baker painted a familiar picture for Houston as they head on the road — these Astros have a long way to go, and have been here before. In the past, it hasn’t ended well for them, minus the tainted 2017 World Series title.
While neither team has announced starters for Game 3 or Game 4, both offenses look capable enough to put a scare in just about any pitching staff. Jose Altuve rediscovered his stroke, getting three hits after having just four previously throughout the entire postseason.

Framber Valdez was masterful, perplexing Philadelphia with his sinker and curveball. Jose Altuve had almost as many hits tonight as he has all postseason. And the World Series is 1-1 as it heads to the mad house that Citizens Bank Park will be Monday.

Thankfully for Houston, Game 2 did not offer similar theatrics to Game 1, and they were able to hold on to the five-run lead most teams so desperately covet.
The Astros are the fifth team in World Series history to build a five-run lead in each of the first two games. Each of the previous four won the series.

While Houston will never live down the sign-stealing scandal in full, another World Series crown would distract the public some from the fact that these Astros have yet to win the whole damn thing without their elaborate system in hand.
One win down, three to go.
