Heisman Trophy Power Rankings: Hendon Hooker overtakes Stroud, Drake Maye makes statement
By Scott Rogust
The Tennessee Volunteers are one of the best teams in the nation. While quarterback Hendon Hooker is getting a lot of the love, and deservedly so, we can not gloss over how big of a season wide receiver Jalin Hyatt is having.
Hyatt might as well list the end zone at Neyland Stadium as his place of residency because all he does is score touchdowns. That was once again the case in Week 9, when the Volunteers took on the No. 19 Kentucky Wildcats.
The junior wideout caught five passes from Hooker for 138 yards and two touchdowns.
On the season, Hyatt has now recorded 45 receptions for 907 yards and 14 touchdowns on the year. He is averaging 20.2 yards per catch.
It is time to give Hyatt some Heisman love because he has been a dominant weapon in Tennessee’s passing game.
Last week, Oregon quarterback Bo Nix rose up the rankings at No. 7 after not being on our list this season due to an incredible game against the UCLA Bruins. He had another big performance in Week 9 when Oregon took on the California Golden Bears.
Nix and the Ducks trailed the Golden Bears 10-7, but they eventually took the lead and built upon it to pick up the 42-24 win.
In the game, Nix completed 77.1-percent of his passes (27-of-35) for 412 yards and three touchdowns. Nix did, however, throw two interceptions. Yet, he was once again a factor in the running game, as he rushed for 59 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries.
Nix and the Ducks should have an easy day at the office when they take on the 1-7 Colorado Buffaloes.
