Mike Tomlin is shockingly close to deserving a spot here but the goodwill he’s built up in Pittsburgh means he can still sacrifice assistant coaches to keep the heat from rising too high on his seat. The assistant who needs to be led to the slaughter right now is definitely Matt Canada.

The Steelers offense is just painful to watch, and it’s clearly not because Ben Roethlisberger can’t throw longer than five yards. The longtime QB is now retired and neither Kenny Pickett nor Mitchell Trubisky has managed to make the offense particularly palatable.

They went into Week 8 averaging the fewest yards per play in the league at 4.8. That figure didn’t get any better with a 4.3 yards per play average against the Eagles. Their 15 points per game are the lowest in the league.

Josh Rowntree is keeping track of the most damning trend: “In Matt Canada’s now 26 games as Steelers OC, the offense has failed to score over 20 points in 21 of those games.”

That’s a fireable offense.
