3 Houston Astros most to blame for World Series Game 3 loss in Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Phillies used a barrage of home runs in Game 3 of the 2022 World Series to gain an early edge on the Houston Astros and post an eventual 7-0 win.
With the victory before a raucous crowd at Citizens Bank Park, the Philadelphia Phillies took a 2-1 lead in the World Series. Game 4 is scheduled for Wednesday night in Philadelphia, with first pitch scheduled for 8:03 p.m. (Eastern)

1. Lance McCullers Jr.
It was a nightmare from the beginning on Tuesday night for McCullers, who gave up five home runs to the Phillies in 4.1 innings. In all, Philadelphia had just six hits against McCullers, but five of those left the park in what was a historic outing for all of the wrong reasons for the Houston starter.

McCullers threw 78 pitches on Tuesday night, and there were plenty of questions about how many of those pitchers were tipped, giving Philadelphia batters an edge against the right-hander.
Needing a strong outing in Game 3 with three consecutive games in Philadelphia to start November, the Astros got anything but that from McCullers, who now has a 5.87 ERA in three postseason starts, including a pair of clunkers against the New York Yankees and Phillies in his last two outings.
