4. Fantasy football wide receiver sleepers for Week 9: DeAndre Carter, Los Angeles Chargers
Rostered: 8.3 percent
Injuries continue to pile up for the Chargers. Mike Williams is sidelined with an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Keenan Allen is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury. Allen dealt with a hamstring injury for the majority of the season, but he was able to return in Week 7. However, Allen said that his “hamstring got worse” during the bye week, according to ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry.
Allen also did not participate in practice on Wednesday or Thursday. If Allen does not play on Sunday, Joshua Palmer and DeAndre Carter should serve as the team’s top wide receivers. In Week 7, Carter had three receptions for 37 yards on a season-high seven targets.
The Chargers’ wide receivers will have a boost in fantasy value this week, as they face the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons’ defense has given up the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season.
3. Fantasy football wide receiver sleepers for Week 9: Devin Duvernay, Baltimore Ravens
Rostered: 42.1 percent
On Thursday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh announced that wide receiver Rashod Bateman will undergo season-ending Linsfranc surgery. In Bateman’s absence, Duvernay should take on a larger role. Duvernay has been an impactful fantasy option this season scoring five total touchdowns in eight games. With his game-breaking speed, the Ravens utilize him in a variety of ways. He lines up in the slot, on the outside, and in the backfield. Last week, he had four receptions for 31 yards and two rushing attempts for 33 yards and a touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
With a potentially larger workload, Duvernay is an intriguing fantasy pickup for the remainder of the season. This week, he will have a favorable matchup against the New Orleans Saints, who have given up the ninth-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season.
