Dusty Baker has trademark reaction to being one game from first World Series
Dusty Baker is one game away with the Houston Astros from winning his first World Series and the manager’s reaction was right on brand.
Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker is one win away from something he’s never accomplished in his illustrious MLB career. If the American League champs can pick up a win over the Philadelphia Phillies in one of the two remaining games in Houston, Baker will win the first World Series of his career.
Yes, the franchise captured a ring back in the cheating scandal-marred 2017 run, but Baker was not the manager at that time. And despite coming close on a number of occasions, he’s never gotten to that mountaintop. Additionally, Baker is also still hanging in the balance in terms of his contract with the club as he has not received an extension yet.
Is Baker feeling all of that pressure? Ever cool, calm and collected, Baker is very much taking it one day at a time.
Dusty Baker isn’t fazed by Astros being one game from winning his first World Series
Speaking to the media and courtesy of Mark Berman with FOX 26, Baker had this to say about being one game away from his first World Series and his future with the Astros:
"“You can’t worry about things that are out of your control…I always thought when I’m supposed to win, I’m gonna win and then when I’m supposed to sign a contract, I’ll sign.”"
You can hear Baker’s full comments in the video below.
It’s rare in the modern age of baseball, even with a more old-school guy like Baker, to see this type of mentality and it’s undoubtedly refreshing. He’s taking the games and the World Series one day at a time and whatever happens happens.
The hope is that he can relay that mentality to his team, an Astros group more than talented enough to go out onto the field, have fun, and get the win needed to bring Dusty Baker his first World Series.
