Phillies prepared for all-out pitching approach to stay alive in World Series

The Philadelphia Phillies are going all out in terms of pitching in a do-or-die Game 6 against the Houston Astros.

The Philadelphia Phillies are one more loss away from ensuring the Houston Astros are crowned World Series champions. After taking a 2-1 series lead following a big Game 3, the Phillies found themselves no-hit in Game 4 and falling just short in Game 5 to enter Saturday night down 3-2. Given the huge stakes in Game 6, the Phillies are prepared to use whoever possible to ensure they can push the World Series to Sunday night.

Ahead of Game 6, Phillies manager Rob Thomson revealed that Zack Wheeler will get the start. But if he needs to exit the game, Thomson is prepared to use Ranger Suarez to enter in relief. Thomson said that the plan was for Suarez to pitch Game 7, but if he needs him on Saturday, he will go a full bullpen behind Aaron Nola on Sunday if necessary.

Phillies: Rob Thomson prepared to use Ranger Suarez in Game 6

Given that this is a must-win game on Saturday night, Thomson is ready to utilize his best players to make sure they can even the World Series up and force a Game 7. That includes bringing in Suarez even though he had initially planned to use him for Sunday (if they reach that point).

Suarez was utilized in Game 1 of the World Series, entering in the seventh inning. He struck out Jose Altuve and forced Alex Bregman to ground out before exiting.

In Game 3, Suarez got the start and picked up the win. He struck out four batters, issued one walk, and allowed three hits in 5.0 innings of work. Of course, this was the game where the Phillies hit five home runs off Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers.

The Phillies need to win on Saturday to keep their season alive. If not, they get to watch the Astros celebrate their second-ever World Series win on their home field.
